Cinematic Look

How can I achieve a cinematic look with drone footage?

Adhere to the 180 Shutter Rule, ensuring your shutter speed is double your frame rate. For example, at 25fps, set your camera to 1/50 sec, and at 30fps, set it to 1/60 sec. This setting introduces the right amount of motion blur between frames, providing a natural appearance. To achieve these low shutter speeds, consider using ND filters, with various aftermarket options available. Additionally, enhance your footage with polarizing filters to bring out details in the sky and water.

Smooth flying is crucial for cinematic drone footage, avoid jerky movements to maintain a seamless flow. Developing this skill requires practice and maintaining a calm demeanour while operating your drone. Many drone manufacturers offer intelligent flight cinematic modes, which adjusts braking distance and rotation speed intelligently, making it easier to capture stunning cinematic drone shots.
